In addition to CRLP's statewide signature programs, CRLP at UC Davis offers two locally developed professional learning series for teachers:
Developing Disciplinary Literacy in the Secondary Classroom
This four-day series provides middle and high school teachers with knowledge and tools to engage students with disciplinary texts in their content areas. Teachers will learn to build on students' experiences and knowledge; anchor literacy instruction in disciplinary practices, unpack texts in ways that support diverse learners, create scaffolds for students with a range of literacy strengths and needs, and plan and facilitate student collaboration to make meaning from text.
Building Literacy Through High-Quality Classroom Discussion
This two-day workshop, customizable for elementary or secondary teachers, equips teachers with frameworks for understanding and planning classroom discussion as well as a range of strategies and structures to foster engaging text-based conversation and to build students' capacity to participate in productive, thoughtful academic discussions that help to build their literacy skills.
